Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is a Gram-positive, spore-forming bacterium that produces crystalline protein inclusions during the sporulation process. These protein inclusions, known as δ-endotoxins or Cry proteins, are highly toxic to specific insects, particularly Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths), Coleoptera (beetles), and Diptera (flies and mosquitoes).
